Conforming

Why should I conform with modern society
When I feel that by doing so I’d be acting cowardly
Why do I struggle to feel contentment and freedom
When I live in a society that represents freedom of expression

Why should I follow the most travelled path
And gain the knowledge that many already hath
Why can’t I risk going where danger lies
And hope that if I get to the end I’ll end up wise

Why should I get married and bring up children
When I’d end up feeling my husbands a burden
Why should I have a relationship based on complicity
When I crave relationships that are filled with passion and intensity

When I fall in love why should I keep my partner caged
To make me feel safe and make my feelings assuaged
Why can’t I let them live and fly free
And be content with the knowledge their loves always with me
